Paper Triangle

Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil Review.

Last night I had the pleasure of watching probably the most fun film of 2011.  I know that sounds clunky: “the most fun film,” but honestly, that’s the only way to describe “Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil.”  Starring Alan Tudyk (A Knight’s Tale), Tyler Labine (A Good Old Fashioned Orgy), and Katrina Bowden (30 Rock), this “horror comedy” is a huge ride through tongue in cheek humor that never manages to take a break from being entertaining.  Here’s the catch though: I can’t really say another word…  To explain in detail what “Tucker & Dale” is all about would be a disservice to the plot and ruin all the fun that lays dormant.  You’ll just have to trust me when I say the movie is a cult classic in the making.  I will, however, give you some guidelines when approaching this movie…

1) The acting is meant to be bad. Don’t go turning it off right away, okay? And this isn’t some “Get out of jail card” like with Star Wars– the over-dramatic, piss poor acting is part of the set up, not a factor of unfortunate casting.

2) Katrina Bowden is smoking in this flick.  For all those concerned, there is some major eye candy to be had.

3) Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine as “Tucker & Dale” are just the best.  They put on a fantastic performance as a couple of good natured hillbillies who seem to get misjudged at every turn.  Dale, especially, has some classic lines…  The chemistry between the two puts most “buddy films” to shame.

4) This is director Eli Craig’s first film.  Get in on this now and prepare yourself for whatever else this man may have to offer in the future.  My guess is it’ll be very bright, because “Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil” presents an amazingly unique idea and nails it effortlessly.  Nothing feels forced or out of reach– the cast and crew were hugely competent in their execution, walking some very fine lines for this type of genre.

5) The film’s title is everything.

Having said that, please go watch this movie.  It’s on Instant Play on Netflix, so basically anyone who reads this has no excuse to pass it up.  Also, it’s only 90 minutes, in HD with 5.1.  Shit looks and sounds good.  Treat yo’self.

I forgot to mention- this movie has some great gore!
