It’s not often that I find a new band to listen to. I have to search through tons of garbage before something really shines. Ask anyone who knows my musical tastes intimately– I’m as unpredictable as they come, so when something strikes my fancy its anyone’s bet as to what it might be. This week’s treasure is “Defeater.” From Massachusetts, this hardcore band is nothing short of awesome. My favorite part lies in the rhythm section: the bassist and drummer are totally sick, creating inventive backbeats to the guitars that sound like Name Taken meets This Will Destroy You. I’ve only purchased their EP, “Lost Ground,” but anticipate picking up their full length as soon as I have the money (which based on the previews on iTunes, their full length is even more captivating).
It takes a lot for a hardcore band to stand out, in my opinion, and these guys manage to do that and then some. Easily going to keep Defeater on repeat for a while. You should do the same.
